CHAPTER 1 :
DIGITAL LITERACY

1) Computers
· An electronic device, operating under control of instructions stored in its own memory.
· Steps : Accept data (input) > Processing > Produces information (output) 
· Type of computer : Laptop, dekstop, tablet, server
2) Mobile and Game Devices
· Type of mobile and game device : Smartphone, digital camera, portable media player, e-book reader, console
3) Data and Information
· A keyboard contains key you press to enter data and insructions into computer or mobile devices.
· A scanner is a light-sensing input device that converts printed text and images into a form the computer can process.
· Output device : Any hardware component that conveys information from a computer or mobile devices to one or more people.
· Type of data and information : Hard disk, solid-state drive, USB flash drive, memory card, optical disk, cloud storage.
4) Internet
· A worldwide collection of network that connect million of bussinesses, government agencies, educational instituitions and individuals.
· Web : Global library of information available to anyone connected to the Internet.
· Webpage : Consists a worlwide collection of electronic documents.
· Website : Collection of related webpages.
· Web server : Computer that delivers requested webpages to our computer.
· Browser : Software that enables users with an internet connection to access and view webpages on a computer or mobile devices such as chrome and firefox.
· Search engine : Software that find websites, webpages, images, videos, news, mapsand other information related to a specific topic such as google and yahoo.
· Online social network : Encourages people to share their interests, ideas, stories, photos, musics with other registered users such as facebook, instagram and twitter.
5) Digital Safety and Security
· Green computing : Reduce the electricity consumed and enviromental waste generated  when using computer.
· Strategies : Recycling, extending the life of computers, regulating manufacturing processes.
6) Program and Apps
· Software/program : Tells the computer what task to perform  and how to perform them.
· System software : Windows, Mac OS, antivirus, firewall
· Application software : Word, Excel
7) Communications and Networks
· Communication device : Transfer items from computers and devices to transmission media and vice versa.
· Network : Collection of computers and devices connected together via communications devices and transmission media.
· Example : GPS, Internet, Email, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, Cellular radio
8) Uses of technology in society : education, government, finance, retail, entertaiment, travel.

9) Technoloy users : Home user, mobile user, power user, enterprise user, small/home office user
